So about 6 months back I decided to learn how to make some alternate clothing textures for Left4Dead 1 & 2 characters then edit the material files so I could actually see/use them in game.
The 1st outfit was inspired by a bright camo guitar owned by Stephen Carpenter of the band the Deftones. So I did a quick paint over mock up.
here's what the texture pages/flats look like. I'll link to them as they are big 2048's
Then I did a bunch of different outfits for the cast of Left4dead2. Various band t-shirts and some inspired by "Tim and Eric Awesome Show"
The only thing I didn't figure out was how to make new Specular maps. It looked like they are doing them as a alpha channel within the normal map. I attempted to get one to function but it didn't work.
They're all nice, but Zoey's jacket needs a bit of touch up. I'd bring the value and saturation down a bit to help it meld better with the rest of the world.
Never noticed how how crazy good L4d2 characters look.
Also, nice skins. Definitely need more quality ones for l4d.
Also also, the shrimp on the hat for the uncle muscles skin?
Ace.
Thanks for taking a look and the kind words. I really think the guys over at Valve did a amazing job on the L4d2 characters, the modeling and the facial animation/expression is just top notch.
The shrimp hat is from "The Beaver Boys" skit on Tim & Eric Awesome show. If you haven't seen it it's basically two bar hoping ladies men who have a passion for shrimp and white wine over anything else.
I don't have Zoey's mesh. I basically just extracted the diffuse textures and repainted it exactly how they had the uv's laid out. Then I'd check it in their model viewer (on the 3d model) or firing up the game and looking at it in there.
