Munch is absolutely awesome. Slightly better than Strangers IMO, but they are quite different games. Controlling those Big Bro sligs is just an awesome powertrip. I totally love all Oddworld games though. Easily a Top 5 games universe. Cant wait to see what they are doing this time.
I don't know enough about this new developer to be as excited as I want to be about this, but the Oddworld games are some of my favourite ever and the whole reason I got interested in game-art in the first place, so here's hoping.
I've been waiting for years for them to finally continue making games *pets treasured Oddworld Artbook*. Already been looking forward to the re-releases of that Oddworld Pack which was previously announced, but this really really makes me happy. It's been waaaay to long since I've last enjoyed possessing a slig or played around with some of those dear little scrabs and paramites.
There's just no excuse at all to not have played Abe1+2, Munch and Stranger
Munch's Oddessey was all kinds of broken. It was worth persevering for the poignant narrative and to get a greater insight into the Oddworld universe, but it was definitely the least of OI's titles, gameplay-wise.
I don't suppose anyone's heard any more about the ports of Munch and Stranger to the PC that were mentioned probably 6 months ago? Maybe that's what these projects that JAW are working on are. They don't actually specify that they're doing anything new on the blog post.
there's a thread on the steam forums about this, apperantly everything's done for munch, they're just having a really hard time getting Stranger ported over.
it's funny cause the whole reason they dropped the ps2 version of stranger is cause they couldn't get it working on that either (and why it won't work on 360). I don't know what their programmers were smoking when they coded that game, but talk about X-box exclusive.
there was nothing "broken" about Munch, it was just a mediocre shell of the game it was meant to be. I've played through it start to finsh 4 times and never once found anything game breaking. there's a blopg somewhere from one of the designers that gets very detailed about process of trying to make that game and why it ended up as it is. One of which (though not only) is that MS wanted it more family friendly. though there were also plenty of technical dificulties. I don't have the link anymore but it's pretty insightfull/crazy.
Heh, this brings back memories. I think it took something like a full year of constant constant iteration to final that little Stranger model :P Mr. Lanning was a particular fellow to say the least.
Ahhhh the stories....
I hope they pull this off. It'd be great to have the ole girl up on her feet one more time.

i agree with the comment you quoted ^ it looks like they mesh-smoothed the low poly
very excited for the game's re-release, however. I remember enjoying the game a lot.
