Getting started!

Hey PolyCount forums!

I'm fairly new to this whole modeling thing; heard the site from the PolyCount pack from Valves contest and i got interested... but since i'm new and i just want to know what are background programs you guys use and how do i view whats already in the game to see its shape and stuff.

    My first advice would be to look into the Polycount Wiki.
    Then you should try the trials of some programms and choose which fits you best or just stick with free Programms like Blender(or similar, but Blender should have everything you need, if you learn to use it)

    My advice would be to do some Tutorials from here or 3dtotal.com(there is lots of tutorials).
    Be sure to check the How to model dem-shapes thread for hard-surface stuff.

    Look at other peoples work and don´t just droll because of it´s awesomeness, look how things were done.Learn from everything you see.
    My last advice: Begin small, don´t try to model things which seem to be hard from the beginning, otherwise you could become frustrated very fast.
    Just work your way up to more difficult pieces over time.

    PS:Feel free to ask specific questions if you don´t understand something, i´m sure me(if i can)or someone else will help you, if you ask in a way we can understand(If you can show a picture for the problem it would be easier to understand then just plain text)
