Maybe we should come up with a wiki page or an FAQ or a stickied thread or something to cover the general topics, I don't mind helping people with unique problems but I think it'd be cool to have some refined answers and responses to the common questions, like what programs should I use, what school should I go to, how do you get so good, how do I get started, what can I do while I'm still in highschool, etc etc.

Anyways I have a question to ask. I am not planning on getting a job in field but start my own thing, I mean its a plus if I get a job or am offered for a position in game studio but if I dont get it, I wont really worry about it.
I am using softimage xsi, photoshop cs 4 (upgrading to cs5 soon), getting zbrush for baked map making and texturing, Visual Studio.NET 2010 for programming, C++ and directx (which can only be used when you export the xfile and I am still looking for a reasonable converter)
And doing some traditional drawings here and there.
Is there any software missing for startup?

Well, not easy to use, but whats in demand.
In other words what is the majority uses besides the initial softwares such as 3ds max, zbrush, photoshop, Maya, XSI, motion builder, mudbox, etc.
I'll check the wiki.
What isn't easy to use?
What do you want to know that is in demand?
What do you want to know about the majority? Are you asking which software most people use? Or something different?
"No offense."
What set of softwares are in demand or are mostly used in the Game Industry.
Or
What set of softwares are needed or highly recommended to start up your own game studio.
You answered your questions already in the list you made in the post above, with the exception of internally created software.

But thanks anyways.
EDIT: I havent looked in to the illustrator section just yet, but I'll definately try them out.
That really needs some work, it should mention its just talking about the games industry, I've heard of softimage being used more than blender.
I don't think a chart is the best answer for that section, a smartly written paragraph or list would be a better choice.
The opening sentence says that it's about art software for game dev, maybe that needs to be stated in the table itself.
I'll take out the Blender comment, I think it confuses the issue.
I'm not sure how a list would be different from a table, except maybe a table gives the false impression of being more "official"? A sentence will be harder to read, that's what it used to be.
As always, I'm open to differing opinions. It is a subjective list afterall, but should represent the general community consensus.
Might be good to mention indy options like blender, unity, gimp, etc etc
