I'm sure some of you have seen this already, but it was new to me.

That site has several examples of what happens as a face grows older and also the differences between genders. It's a really good thing to study. Thought I would post it here in case there are any aspiring character artists looking for ref.

ROCKS!
umm.. that book seems to cost $2500?
No Sir pior, none of us have this sort of money.
Anyways back to the topic.
Are there any further suggestions regarding these ref images (or rotocopy bordered images)? Or do I just create them by looking at the original ref image.
I am talking about front and side ref images not just the ref image in any prospective you can get.
Or do you guys spend hours to find the right side and the front side of the ref you are looking for.
I have used the above images before and they are next to useless for me anyway
It is certainly wise to collect as many refs as possible for each head that you try
Rotocopy are the ref-images created with the thick borders for your base mesh. It has the front and the side views based on your original ref image.
so you guys actually find them, and not make them...
weird, I swear I saw this grid sketching tutorial which I have lost and I have been looking for it ever since. It teaches how to make the front and side view from the original ref.
Oh well, I guess I'll keep looking around.
Thanks.
The front and the side pose that you make from the border image.

EDIT: Actually its better for me to stick with the simple words and call them front ref image and side ref image for modeling, since it turns out to be terribad when communication fails.
My apologies.
So do you guys draw the front ref image and side ref image from the original ref image? Or do you just look for them online.

does anyone know any other cool books with interesting portraits in them? i've been meaning to find more for a while now
Often with organic stuff there is no magic bullet.
Using a grid would be fine. I take my side views in pshop and try and line them up best I can, but just tracing a side and front view will not guarantee great results.
I tend to glean a lot of extra info from the 3/4 view
I never bother with a line drawing TBH
15 quid at ASDA (Walmart UK). you should import a pallet or two to the states and make a killing.
