Hey guys, just wanted to get some feedback on which software to use to get in the gaming industry. I'm an XSI guy but from what I've researched, most game dev use 3ds max? Is that correct? I've been thinking of switching to 3ds max. Does anyone know about this?

thanks all.

Generally speaking, yes Max is far more popular then XSI in the games industry.

My advice is to do a small project in 3dsmax so that you know where all the tools are and then use whatever app you are most comfortable with.

You never know, jobs are unpredictable and wasting time trying to be psychic about what applications you will be using isn't generally a good idea.

I would just focus on making good quality work and also make sure you are aware of, and posses basic competency of, most of the major software used in the industry. Its not too hard to do, you don't need to master every app and then from there you just pick the one you enjoy the most and make awesome work.

Good art is always in demand and definatly supersedes knowledge of any one particular 3d package.

    +1 to what jocose says.

Stick with what your comfortable with and just download the Max and Maya trials to get familiar with there UI's and there relevant tools you need so the switch will be less painful.

You may end up switching to Max thinking thats were all the jobs are, then end up working with Maya.

I prefer XSI myself, but unless your in Japan or Canada, finding a studio that uses XSI is hard. For instance, here in the UK theres 2 companies i know that use it compared to the mass of Maya based studios.
