Ovescan on TV/Monitor

Hey everyone, got a bit of a display issue I'm hoping some of you may know how to fix.

I just built a PC for my Brother and he wanted to use his TV/Monitor as the display.

It's a 32" panel with native 1080p but I can't get the thing set up right in Win7. It seems to want to default to 720p as anything higher results in a lot of flickering and upping the refresh rate past 29hz results in a black screen.

1280x720 looks ok but there's a bit of overscan.

It's hooked up to a GTX260 via DVI to the HDMI in on the display. The monitor only has either HDMI or VGA.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to either get it to display properly at 1920x1080 without flicker or at 1280x720 without overscan?

Unfortunately it doesn't have any manual adjustments on the display and despite there being some reference to overscan adjustmen in the NVidia CP on Google, the CP for the 260 certainly doesn't have it.

Thanks

Look into exporting directly through HDMI, you can get a video card that supports HDMI for pretty cheap, if you're still able, even return the card you purchased for the system.

I had a lot of various problems using DVI-HDMI, where as exporting with real HDMI just "works" in the few HTPC builds i've done it with.

Yeah a native HDMI out for the graph-card I think is the best way, although it's strange that the screen doesn't provide DVI input :/

    Thanks for the replies both.

You're right, the HDMI>DVI thing was causing issues.

I used a DVI > VGA adapter and plugged it into VGA on the display and it's working fine.

I think the lack of DVI in is that it's more of a TV with monitor support rather than a monitor that can be used as a TV if you see what I mean.

I know VGA is not digital but it still looks pretty good, and it'll be used purely for art and some gaming and not movies so the lack of HD isn't an issue.

    Thanks again

Doesn't the GTX260 have a HDMI port? I thought that was pretty standard...

It doesn't as standard, at least not this GTX260 (ASUS), but I think there's some sort of adapter plate or something available.
