So i'm finally getting a new PC. The problem is that I have get a Quadro for work. Mainly for architectural production work. But I also would like to have access to realtime shaders too. And judging by most of the comments on the board about this card. It ain't good. Although I might be getting this Quadro FX 5800. The specs sez that it has Shader Model 4.0 and Directx 10. What do you guys think bout this card?

its pure fun to work with in mudbox cause of the 4 gig Vram...
i have a nvidia 285gtx, 3GHZ QX6850 Quad Core, 8 GB of DD2 Dual Channel Ram (1066Mhz) and some semi decent hard drives. i use Revit , 3Ds Max, Autocad, Vray and Vray RT for work on that machine with huge files and renders (but also have access to a render farm) and it handles well. a FX5800 is a bit over rated for the price.
it would be far more beneficial to get a machine similar to specs i mentioned in first paragraph and set your machine up well, with some tweaks to windows, an efficent workflow in your apps and good scene management

I have no idea how well they run, but considering that thing costs over three grand, maybe spend 2 grand on a slightly worse quadro (4800 or something perhaps?) and a grand on a box for realtime shaders. Though someone else will have to say if this would be a good solution. It's kinda far-fetched...
i'm not sure why your asking if you don't have a choice.
to be honest if your going to invest that much money you should wait for the Fermi based quadros which i think there is going to be a 3GB and a 6GB version. the performance on those are going to be crazy. or at least wait for their release because there will probably be a small price drop on the 4800 and 5800
