2d shadow/lighting tile help.

I am trying to make tile sets similar to this (created by Dev from runic game forums) and I'm having a huge trouble making them. I created one myself but it seems.. ugly .. The part that troubles me is making the tile and doing shadow/lighting on it.

That is my version of a orange tile set. I was going for a random rocky version but it didn't turn out so well.

Thanks for the 3 links, Cholden. Sadly I already been to all 3 and many more I found on google. The orange, tile, vomit thing I created was from the tutorial of the 2nd link. My problem is I do not know how you get the shadow/lighting to get like that. I tried different opacities, different colors, I just can't get it right.

Paint it over and over a few hundred times. It'll never be done, only a little better each time. The number of intervals of painting for improvement is different for everyone so keep practicing, reading the tutorials, and so on.

Thanks for the help, Cholden. I see what you mean. I maybe only re-colored it once. I'm working on a green tile set so hopefully with the advice and from the tutorials it'll look a lot better.
