I'm really liking this hat dude, it's probably the most creative one that I've seen in a while.
Thanks man. I'm currently trying this brush-stroke texturing-thing but it's coming along slowly (paining isn't my strongest suit - i'm colourblind) but we'll see.
After that it's a specular map (making the bell nice and shiny ingame) and then I reckon we're good
For the melee, im not sure what its called, but maybe add one of those dolls you hold by a handle with 4 strings?
And the pyro could swing it? Lame idea, but w/e :P
You mean a Marotte?
Indeed, that's where the idea started. Issue was that, yes it fits with the theme and would kind of work with the Pyro, it's not going to hurt as much as an axe or a sledge-hammer.
The Melee weapon is in the initial modelling stages and, though not hugely original, I think works very nicely.
I'd assume he means a marionette, but that thing looks like a better weapon.
You might be right but a marionette wouldn't work at all. In my eyes a jester/harlequin carries a marotte. I'm not going to say too much right now but the Melee weapon is sorted, just needs making.
I say 'finished' because it needs jigglebones but I can't work them at the moment and want to concentrate on the other weapons before asthetic touches.
Here it is, in game and looking fine!
Sorry I've not posted for a while, been busy with RL stuff.
Anyways, had a pop at optimising the hat and making it a little smoother. Whilst the 3 'cones' are material with padding inside, I felt that the sharp corners along the top were a little too harsh for what I'm going for. Let me know what you think:
Just an update, now that I'm happier with the hat I'm moving back to the flamethrower. Again a complete re-make based on what I had before. I gained some higher quality concept art of the fhape of the face (and a little of the hand):
Been working hard on the Cackling Conflagration (Flamethrower) and it's now starting to take shape. Here's some pics (Feel free to comment/criticise but bear in mind these are WIP shots)
Thanks for the useful feedback guys. Just to let you know, WIP stands for 'Work in Progress' meaning this isn't representative of the final product. I'm aware that the previous pictures show a model that still needs work and I am continuing to do so.
Anyways, here's some of the progress I have been making. It's mostly been un-denting the face somewhat, it's still got a ways to go but, again, it's getting there - slowly.
Also I've had a crack at making the hand to go on the end of the arm, as you can see. Tomorrow I'm going to make that hand look less like one of those wooden hands you find in an art class, try to make the cowel look more natural (I'm thinking bells) and continue my work on the face.
The only thing I'm currently thinking is that this is supposed to represent one of those old wooden dummies (Think Saw) and it's going to (after texturing) look old and beaten-up. So I am going to a slightly sharp, angular look. It may become clearer as work progresses, I don't know.
Anyways, as always feeback is gratefully recieved.
I don't like the brown or white on the jester hat. Jester hats are supposed to be colorful IMO. Maybe try team color with and green or something. Crit a Cola also has a nice purple you might wanna check out.

Don't really like the new low-poly version of teh flamethrower, the older ones were better
apart from that, good work!
Agreed... unfortunately I need to keep within the triangle count for this and couldn't do that with the old one... Shame really coz it was nice. Nevermind though. I think this one is going to look great when it's textured (I really hope so...)
i was just curious how much work [ of your own ] you've put into this compared to other entries
i know the hat was done by you from scratch
I apologise if my remarks were a little harsh but yes, it did sound like you were trolling. I've made the face, hat and arm/cowel for this flamethrower. As the backburner this isn't supposed to be a replacement for the whole flamethrower. Just a mask.
I have had several ideas for a full replacement but none of them make enough sense cvompared to this design, hence why i've stuck with it.
Additionally, as you can see from my work, I'm crap. I only started learning this stuff 2 weeks ago so I have no delusions about winning and am, consequently, not comparing my work with others. They're all far better than I

Yup, that'd be it. Just found a great guide that should help. Thank you!
If I could give you a cookie I would

Can't wait to see it finished

I've been trying out the brushing effect and believe I'm somewhere near cracking it.
Could someone please offer a critiqu
Brushing is looking wicked! Gives the hat an almost brushed-velvety feel to it:
The Motley Crown is 'finished'!

The bells are shiny and reflective:

So we'll see what I can come up with using this

It's too sharp, too dented, and too full of strange shapes.

or did you just pop on a clown face to the regular flamethrower and hey presto?
Psyke, you didn't read this thread, did you?
Go re-read it (where this issue is discussed) then go away and stop trolling.
just gonna leave this here

I'm gonna go right ahead and say that I'm not going to please everyone on this :susp:
i guess it works though.
