Hi, my first post here. I'm currently doing a 2 year game development art major course and thought id enter this competition for some experience 
I'm still in idea stage, im thinking a sorta modern warfare look for the soldier.
Heres a quick digital painting mock up i made of a helmet design i came up with.
If someone can tell me if this is a too "futuristic" idea for the competition before i put time into designing and modeling any more.

Regarding your doubts about your idea being "too futuristic". Have a read of this and it should tell you all you need to know about the style you're trying to match.

Also, are you only making a hat? The contest requires a minimum of three themed items.
