If you're worried about silhouettes and such you could make the entire helmet bowl transparent glass with a tiny wire running down the back for the antennae (if you care about that). Then his head will be the same silhouette and easy to aim for and it's still spacey and saves you effort.
I personally think it's great the way it is.
How are you with limits on the model for the hat? Can always use more retro-futuristic doodads! The antenna on the hat could be bigger/more exaggerated (a larger bulb tip?).

that's the EXACT hat the other guy did and he nailed it perfectly, the best i could do is copy him, so i decided to mix and match a few ideas from other hats.
If you don't want to though, I'd suggest scaling it down a little, there is a lot of space you could lose to tighten up the silhouette.
It's not that i'm afraid to scrap work, it's just that it has grown on me pretty well.. It's not really as big as you think it is. and it doesn't really damage the silhouette, if anything if would make a BIGGER target for snipers (though i can't hit the squirrelly bastards period)

Have you tried putting a skylight into your scene then hitting f10 going to advance lights then putting light tracer on in that drop down box? not sure if that would edit the renders. If not play around with the render set up

You didn't spend ages on the helmet did you? Never be afraid to scrap work if it doesn't...work.

More catoony versions of antennae are usually made into shapes other than simple lines...like on Kang and Kodos from the Simpsons-

i took the left color from your suggestion, and i lightened it about 30% i think it looks good.
