tf2 - Polypack - Hatemaker

Hi =)

I'm going to make some items for the soldier.
Theme is: WW2 items / Military items

At the moment my ideas are:

Misc: Self-proclaimed sergeant
Right now the idea is a piece of cloth or cardboard with a sergeant insignia.

Melee: Undetonated head smasher
German Model 24 Stielhandgranate, that didn't explode, the soldier picked it up and started smashing nazi skulls with it.

Secondary: Trench gun
Winchester Model 1912 with heat shield. The heat shield might add too many polys, but I'm gonna give it a try anyway.. =)

Anyone got the .smd file(s) of the tf2 shotgun? I can't get the MDLdecompiler to work.. :(

Some concepts of the new shotgun:

Stocks tend to cause clipping issues, so to save yourself wasted effort you might want to test this early on in the design process.

I like the grenade but a bit of wear and tear might make it a little more interesting as it's a quite plain at the moment.

Not sure about the shotgun yet, but I'm interested to see where you go with it.

Valve's going to be touchy about using their model and building on it. Think the rules kind of state that you have to build it from scratch.

I do like the notion of a stickgrenade being used as a bludgeoning weapon (especially if the alternate fire used it as a bludgeoning AND exploding weapon at the same time) but I'll bet you they'll like it better if you add some nonsense to it (barbed wire or nails or some shit)

I agree with Dick about the grenade, it's just too plain.
I like the concept and all, but it just looks too boring at the moment.

I think you should stick to the same idea, but make it look less generic.

Bind some other grenades to the stick with tape, and maybe a tooth or two stuck in the metal

    thanks for the feedback =)

The grenade will get some more details, I might add som dents to the can and add the ball and thread (jigglybones maybe?) at the bottom. So it will look like a grenade that misfired.

@Karkas: barded wires or nails sounds cool, might add some nonsense. =D
I was thinking it could have some random chance to explode one when you hit people with it, alternate fire could also work. But I guess Valve decides the game mechanics.

@EVIL: smart, I have seen some images of that so that can work. =)

Mhm, but thats not the reason i want the model. =)
I have not been modeling much the last year, so I want to take a look at how the built theirs, and get some pointers on where and how big the different parts should be so it won't need a new animation.

That's how i built the handle for my rocket launcher and got the right proportions for the barrel. Got as close as I could to copy+paste for the sake of constancy and lining up the hand grips.

If you want to have the grenade look more unique, maybe look into geballte Ladung, an improvisation where they taped seven grenades together.
