Hey y'all,
I've just posted a new beta test of CrazyBump:
http://crazybump.com/release/CrazyBump12beta4.exe
The main new feature in this release is the "Focus" control. Please test it out!
Does "Focus" seem like a good name for this control, or would you suggest something else?
As always, let me know if you see any problems, or have any suggestions!
peace,

Focus seems to describe the feature quite well but maybe something like "Tighten" would be better?
It seems to work very well on organic details but not so great on HS stuff.
I will have a play later and do some more tests
It would be extemely usefull for dirt/Scratch mapping
@Metalliandy: VeryFineDetail didn't quite vanish; it morphed into the "focus" control. Focus is sorta like a more powerful version of VeryFineDetail. I think VeryFineDetail will be returning, because the "Focus" interface seems to be less straightforward. (They use more-or-less the same algorithm under the hood.)
@r_fletch_r: Thanks for the suggestion! I've been considering adding world-space support. I'll keep you posted! At present, I think you could use xnormal to convert your world space map into tangent space, and load that into CB.
I like the Focus tool...it would be cool to have a test build where there are both tools, so the the differences can be compared directly.
There are limited ways of doing this in max, using vertex colours on a per edge basis. per edge you take the connected faces and get the angle between their normals then use that to weight between black and white. you then use that to map. obviously this is severly limiting as it relies on topology of the model for resolution. If this could be done perpixel with a sampling radius it could get very usefull
There is a discription of the workflow here

The reason i suggested WS maps was a presumption that this would be more meaningfull than a TS map when considering the actual shape of an object without needing a model to put it into context.
@r_fletch_r: Ahh, now I understand. That's a good idea! Thanks!
@metalliandy: Good idea! I think the next build will have a compromise between the two... a "fine detail" slider that works more like the "focus" slider.
Do you mean "Very Fine detail" or will you be actually be changing the "Fine Detail" slider? :O
*Edit*
512 posts ftw! ^^
This... because then I can honestly say I'm "Tightening the Graphics"!
edit: Dammit, how did I miss that. Someone beat me to it. Now I feel silly.
