Anyways here is my skin for soldier shovel Proportions are quite weird, but I didn't imagine that hist shovel is so short, so to match the overall geometry I was forced to shorten some distances :>
I am quite happy how it look now. I still don't know if that crack in the middle fits here... but brand new crop was somewhat boring
Emm... also I have a question... does anyone know how to import bones properly from SMD to MAX? When I imported view model of shovel I was really shocked... I ask, because I would later try to import this into game.... but now I cannot even recognize the hand bones...
If someone have (and would be so kind to share) info/tutorial about importing custom weapons I would really appreciate it
I'd say if you are going to have a crack like that you should have somethngcoming out of it, otherwise, you could have just the tape with like a split going up the middle? Your hole looks a little too rounded right now.
Please don't argue about speed effect. It was not my intention, I was just joking and my intention was more based on building the will of fight after having couple of meles rather than in-game stats boost
I think you should consider an arrow or knife or needlegun needle or nail sticking through the crack, just to give character and explain the break.
And the break looks more like its just shaped that way and not broken. Like the wood grew that way or something. Make some jagged edges like the Pain Train or Sandman have to show the breakage.
if this get implemented, it will be the most bad ass melee, hurts more than weapon with blade, cuz u will be like bleeding and stuff. and more whiping!? omg,!

Thanks allot. I will definitely consider your advice and put something in that crack... it would be wise to give there a tip of demoman's broken sword... But then i don't know how it would look, probably silly. Also I will try to make cracked wood more real. About jiggle ... it is jiggling now, but I must say not in the correct way, what i noticed, hat weapon_bone is facing back not up along the model..., also when i create bone chain they letter jiggle weird like they would have been rotated similar how hey look when you import SMD into Max... i will post screens of rig later
Ok, as you guys suggested I added something... speaking more precise... the tip of Demoman's sword (maybe a little memorial from the WAR times... who knows )

Yes Y-M your right, I should think more about more correct shape. I will bend it in few ways and look what looks best. The sword was a bit twisted before it got broken so wood crackle is so width.. but probably to much Thanks for suggestion
I hope it looks more interesting now. I will not go much further, because now I am a bit afraid of overdo this I mirrored the demoman's sword so it would fir more to soldier's critical mele hit
It is holding the blade tip so you could deliver a powerful critical mele hit, without losing this fine cutting edge Although maybe I will add something to stabilize the wood structure
I like it better without tape. You could always screw a piece of metal on to seal the wound caused by the sword to the whip. (I think the tape looks too busy and doesn't look like it would hold the frag anyways)

Actually i was having a little brake (short holiday). I managed to did something inspired from Khthon suggestion. I hope it looks better now. I plan to decide soon how it should look and finally start to texture Later i plan to make a helmet and rocket luncher, both inspired as this whip by general theme I have some ideas/references, but i will show theme with time

And here is a mockup of helmet. Quite quick really. At the end helmet will be cracked from edge to the place when horseshoe was left after horse kick , also some inner extrude will be shown on the surface)

Agh need to speed up to finish before 28h (ahhh weekend will be sleepless I think )
I misinterpreted the way the rocket launcher was supposed to be facing. Maybe making it look a bit more like a cannon directly taken off of a tank would look better. Or at least reduce the size of the muzzle breaker.

Hehe Purple Heart, that would be quite fun if soldier got one, because hi is still alive... not mentioning those bazillions of deaths in game... so maybe it would make even some sense I will think about it if there will be some time left...

So optymalization, Unwraping, texturing, compiling and I will be in haven
and you have to remember you're replacing the Soldiers helmet which already has a lot of tris so it's OK if you have a "little too many" tris maybe load the reference model of the Soldiers helmet, check the tris then subtract the number from your own helmet and if it's around 800 then you're good to go

It would be worth it to see a soldier chasing after a speeding heavy, whipping him.
Making him as fast IE: The engineer would be so utterly game breaking.

It looks a little like his hand is loose around it, perhaps you need to scale it up in diameter?
