Here are my ideas for the contest tell me what you think.
Class:
Sniper
Theme:
Australia
Melee:
Boomerang
To replace the
Machete.
No throwing ability since we cant change the weapons mechanics, so the boomerang would be used as a makeshift knife.
Secondary:
Digger's Darling
To replace the
Submachine Gun. The Owen submachine gun was used during WWII by the Australian Army. During the gun's life, its reliability earned it the nickname "Digger's Darling" by Australian troops and it was rumoured to be highly favoured by American troops.
Secondary:
The Stubby
To replace the
Jarate. All Australians love beer, so I decided to make a beer bottle instead of the Jarate. I was thinking the label could have "Saxton Hales Premium Quality Larger"
Secondary:
Skippy
To replace the
Razorback. The Razorback acts as a shield to stop enemies attacking, I was thinking I could replace that with a dead animal carcass slung over the Snipers shoulder, covering his back as well. Most probably the animal will be Australian native, such as a kangaroo or koala. Feel free to tell me what animal should go on his back.
Hats:
Cork Hat
Pretty self explanatory. corks hang down the sides of the hat to stop flys/bugs. Was thinking I could rig it with jiggle bones.
Hats:
Slouch Hat
A hat worn by Australian Army personal.
Tell me what ideas you think i should take further or change?
Cheers
EDIT: Moved onto Scout/Heavy idea, will go back to Sniper later.

It does not come 180 degrees out of the gun, but rather about 120-ish, a slight upward angle as to not block the sights. Naturally however this would cause 2 problems for what you're wanting to do:
1. Could very well block the entire front half of the gun in first person view
2. New Animations. (just a consideration) You may want to forgo having it on top and move them in alignment with the original sniper SMG's handle and magazine.
Uh.. I may be wrong but I've done a bit more research into the gun and it clearly is 180 degrees top mounted, and if not, closer to 180 than 120. Remember it isn't a sten. But I understand what you mean by first person view functionality. T

Rough concept art:
wow
This ist risky!
This dead Animal looks a bit to heavy.
I say go with the dead animal. If it's too much of a problem, change it to something less adorable, like a tasmanian tiger.
He's changed it to just part of a crockskin. Just a "dead animal" isn't very appealing either.
With Protein Powder/steriods, replacing the Sanvich. A Dumbbell replacing the Melee and maybe a bowflex/gym machine/tredmil type of gunreplacing the Mini gun.
No I havnt, that why I think I might go with the Heavy idea instead. My plans for the sniper are too radical or hard to implement.
is it like a axe or something?(i really cant tell )
Edit: Oh he already said what it was.
reason one, it will look REALLY weird to hold on a long gym barbell and trying to hit ppl ( the way i imagine it is like holding it like the skull cutter but with two hand seperated)
reason two, saves u time , u dont need to do animation if you use one handed ones and give them to heavy.
now how will ur other weapon relate to gym?
mini gun and shotgun / sandwich
I liked ur sniper pack...
true the roo was a bit hard, but you culda done a roo-shoota pack or sumthin.
rifle
( roo shoota)
hat
(blowfly) or aussie *convict hat
and have a knife ( or broken VB king brown) or modify the digger to fit the snipers hand it dosent have to be an existing gun , just looks like it works and has a recognisable style ,, youve done most of the model..just play with its config and silhohete.. it was coming along nicley!!!!
or melee weapon like ball and chain harking back to our glorious *convict past!
*edit-- there was absolutely nuthin wrong with the boomerang as a melee
it culda had a blade fashioned into it ( homemade or modified seems to be a theme in tf2) as well (PimpinATEAMstyluZ)
my 2 cents
Do it for Australia!

well i was kinda 50/50 on who to give it to, my original thoughts were that the scout was trying to be all tough so he started going to the gym and lifting weights and drinking protein shakes, even tho he thinks his strong i was going to have really light weights on the barbell. The joke was that his trying to gain weight to become like the heavy but is having no success.
After your guys feedback I think I will go with the heavy.
I still have no idea what I 3rd item I could make, either a hat or a primary. I was thinking the mini gun made out of treadmill parts.
I personally wish people would tone down on the usage of "Mann Co" on everything *shrug*
Yes, Mann Co is an awesome company...
However there are other companies in TF2 as well, and Mann Co mostly just sells weaponry. Items such as dumbbells are more commonly used as a sports activity, and therefor it would make more sense if it had a sports oriented company's logo on it.
well the idea was, mann co. seems like a manly company in which they make manly things and i thought it would suit the theme as the scout is trying to be a man.. jeez i think i said man too many times ;D
But just for you ill take a look ingame for any sporting companies suting the dumbbell.
Thank you
I just think it would be a bit more unique if it had a less common company.
Atm it looks a bit plain, I might go back to the drawing boards and see what other designs I can come up with.
I was think along the lines of: "THE BIG BONK!"
Since when are steroids illegal?
source: http://www.justice.gov/ndic/pubs5/5448/index.htm
edit: oops, OP already stated steroids or proteins
Interesting, but then any drug that can't be bought over the counter could be considered illegal in that sense. EDIT: a mate just told me it's actually illegal like marijuana would be illegal, so yeah, my bad.
Zis is not medicine!
Anyway, I kinda agree it's not really fitting. I don't see why you can't make something like Gatorade. Maybe call it Gatorage? With a meanass crocodile on the front.
Label it "juice" and then it'll imply the same thing without saying it outright.
Jarate uses a drug that's shutting down the sniper's organs to cause his kidneys to swell up. Bonk! uses radioactive substances that has a long list of extremely fatal side-effects. This is a game full of ridiculous disregard for one's own life in the quest to kill others in a better/funnier way.
it's more the implications of taking steroids in a game for amusment ect

Valve loves references and humor, so should work out well if you choose to homage stuff from that.
