Hi Guys.
I've modelling for a few months now and I thought i'd take a shot at this contest.
Im doing the Demoman and I after a few hours of thought I found a theme I like.
Theme: Pirate
Long story short, the Demoman discovers several items belonging to his Great great Grandad and legondary demoman, the dreaded scourge of the seas "Edward Bombbeard DeGroot". Who during the height of his career, decided that piracy was just too boring. So instead of trashing towns and doing stuff a normal pirate is supposed to do, he spent several years perfecting his "toys". Finally, 3 years, 2 eyeballs, a leg and 600 dead crewman later, he created probably the most dangerous, outragous and explosive guns known to 17th century man. Centuries later, and these guns, a bottle of grog, and for some reason his BEARD was passed down to the Demoman.
Here's a few basic silhouettes of what his "blunderbuss" will look like:
Give me a heads up about which designs you like and Ill be adding beard and rum bottle concepts soon.
Replies
Any opinions you can give me about them would help alot.
and a basic texture render of the jug. Enjoy!
beards wont work unless it covers the entire mouth.
For the bottle texture, maybe increase the size of the 'xxx' or the word 'rum' on the label, so it can be visible from afar.
Ill have a look what the other people are doing and decide whether I should rethink or not.
Right, I had a look round as well and the does seem to be alot of competition. Ill still go on with the theme, but if I have another idea ill post it here.
Because you cant see much of the detail in the render ive also included the uv map.
Really unusual mint green you've chosen there. I suggest going something more like "moonshine" and along these colors:
Here's some refs:
I like the molotov idea, I was planning on using it for a melee weapon but that could work as well. Ill update it in the model later. I want edit the UV layout anyway, the main part didn't come out how I hoped.
Thanks for the feedback!
I going to get the rum logo on it normal mapped as it looks pretty blurry.
Im going away for a while, so I wont be able to update to atleast the weekend. I might not even have internet access. So if I don't reply for a while, its because im away.
See you later.
I dunno about you but I think its a cool idea. What do you guys think?
and the UV map for the RED one:
I did do a fuse but for some reason It deleted it self. Plus, I had trouble getting it to deform properly. So sorry about that.
Can i have some more feedback about the blunderbuss? Because I want to get started on it as as soon as possible. Oh and any feedback about my "pirate wheel" targe replacement would be greatly apreciated. Ok later!
I know what you mean though, ever since the eyelander and the 'targe came out a lot of people treat the demoman as maniac with a sword and a grenade launcher.
.
Along with the actual gun, ive decided to create a custom cannonball grenade, which can be seen in the picture. Ok see ya later!
Incase your wondering why some parts aren't connected to the main body, it's because this is just a render to show how im getting on, so the model isn't complete yet. More coming hopefully tomorrow.
I was thinking as part of the texture, I could get some engravings on the wood, simular to the ones in this picture.
Let me know what you think.
I fixed up the smoothing errors, I know the stock doesn't have the same colour as the rest of the body, but thats just the way it has to look, otherwise I can't rig it.
Feedback would be greatly appreciated and the texture is hopefully coming tomorrow!
I wanted to get down a few opinions on what shape to have the wheel before i really added any major detail, so thats why the silouttes are a little boring.
I've done a few more silhouttes of a more damged version of the wheel 1. With 6 being completely undamaged.
I don't know whether I should bevel out the edges. What do you think?
I would smooth it out more but Im pushing 6000 tris at them moment so I dont want to push it mucg, i also think the spike may be too long aswell. What do you think?
Heres the UV map if you can't see much of the detail (Blender render is really messed up sometimes)
I think I finally managed to get a good looking tf2 style.
I've decided to cut the beard, as it would clip into the Demos flak jacket when applied normally. I'm now thinking of doing a possible pirate hair style to replace it. Ideas coming later.
Any feedback would be greatly apreciated.
Anyway, i decided to spend a bit more time on the bottle so I added the fuse and made a smashed version. Which can be seen here:
