Decided im not going to just let this one pass, going to be doing some stuff for the pyro, not going to be using my daft punk hat though probly wouldn't be wise. Will update later with some wip pics.
I love the hydrant as a melee weapon. Awesome idea. The badge is looking nice too. If it will have stats attatched to it then I'm worried it would be hard to see but otherwise great ideas!

Thanks vig, its seems to fit really well without eye holes and just sitting atop his his/her head without sticking up to far, and on another note i think i might add a hydrant wrench too, not sure on that one yet though
When I see these items I instantly think Fahrenheit 451, and how the firemen start fires not put them out, it fits well with the Brigade Helmet and Vintage Merryweather since both are firemen hats. Love the designs
great idea mate! The badge/melee weapon and bucket hat work well - only a small crit though -
the bucket hat: any way to make it a moar impressive silohette? maybe include a dent in it and emphasise the rims/lining - otherwise good progress...
i actually tried that and im trying to stick to the 800 limit, its at 790 right now i just cant get a dent to look good without a normal map but ill try it out when im done uv mapping.
I enjoy the idea of using a fire hydrant, but uh...fire hydrants are F'n huge; Logically, how would he hold it.
(if you go with the concept art you should be fine, though it is very stylized compared to an actual hydrant.)
What model is the Badge supposed to replace (i'm assuming one of the weekend warrior badges if you're not hoping for functionality)
Enjoy the hat, But since you already have a bucket ready I would suggest going a step further and (even though not covered by this contest) make a "Bucket of water" for a secondary slot item. All you would have to add (assuming) is a water line or something of that nature.
Puts out fires in an area, stuns buildings for (x) seconds.
I am actually trying to think up a secondary right now, i dont really want to tackle a primary because taking the flamethrower away really changes the way the pyro is played and im making the hydrant an older skinny kind of one like this. On another note here are some wires and texture sheets, im not great with uv maps but tried to get the most space out of them. I would also like to know if someone has a good tutorial for getting things from maya to source, i cant seem to get it right and i want to see how it will look in game because im sure im going to have to add more geometry to the dent to get it to look how i want.
If you want to get it in TF2 you need to decompile an existing TF2 model, replace it with your model and compile it as the item in TF2. I'm sure theres some YouTube videos that would explain it better then me if you haven't complied a model before.
Also for the bucket hat, if you merge 1/2 the lines going into the interior and into the crease near the top, you can save a good chunk of polies that way and not have it effect the overall silhouette.
Hey it's hotdog, I met you in game. I'm really impressed with your ideas; the irony is just hysterical and it fits the pyro marvelously. I don't know if this is possible but could you take the metal handle on the bucket and experiment with putting it underneath the pyro's chin like some sort of a "chinstrap" for his "helmet". Maybe you could make the metal jiggle back and forth while he runs using jigglebones, but who knows! Heh look at me, just another newb on the forums suggesting more jigglebones lol!
i tried the under the chin thing but it made it look weird and would most likely cause problems with clipping.
On a side note ive givin' up on trying to get this from maya to source and i really didn't want to do this but if anyone would like to help it would be much appreciated, the model is pretty much final but i want to see how the whole thing looks in game so i can work on the textures from there. If anyone would be kind enough to help me out with the compiling and getting in game i would be in debt to you because i cant get it to work. PM me if you would like to help but for now im moving onto the melee weapon.
all I know is the fire hydrant is one of the greatest melee idea for pyro I've seen and perhaps a slightly modified shotgun with a firehose nozzle for a suppressor?
I don't know anything about Maya but I think if you use MilkShape 3D you should probably be able to go from Maya to MilkShape with some model format and then to Source SMD.
Well just got home from work, new jobs been killing all my time as of late and life got in the way of things this time, I wont be finishing this one today just not enough time left to do it, however the hat will be submitted as i feel it is up to par, on that note any ideas for a name while Im working on finishing up the red texture tonight?

Misc items generally don't. Great lookin ideas!
So the hat will extend off his/her head or will you cut holes for the eyes and it will fit over the head?

I like the idea.
Ill post some wires and sheets in a bit.

Might as well *shrug*
Do you have plans to make a Flamethrower/secondary too?
Or a 1950's fire extinguisher incorporated into the flamethrower ?
I'm liking the bucket and badge though.
This should help.

Also, your items are my favorite so far, they fit the class very well while staying completely cosmetic.
