Hey guys,
I usually try to follow all render/shader threads as this topic interests me and an issue that is often on my mind is "Why can't Maya's viewport do these things which other apps handle?"
I've tried messing about with shader authoring in Mental Mill and exporting as CGFX shaders for Maya, but I want more. I want to mess about with post processing, have shadow support with hlsl/cgfx shaders, better alpha handling, etc.
Autodesk recently released Maya 2011 which has a Viewport 2.0 (woohoo!?). On the good side this new viewport can supposedly push many more polygons and a lot faster. On the bad side they still didn't give us features like the Max renderer has such as post processing for instance.
Any views on this subject? Is there any alternative realtime renderer that hooks into Maya that has these niceties?

I heard it's buggy though.
Yeah I remember trying that out really briefly back when that thread was created. Doesn't seem like they are developing/maintaining it any longer though. Feels kind of misguided to learn a possibly outdated and not maintained render engine.
On the other hand, they have a post saying they are supporting CGFX shaders in their news section. Hmm...
Thank you for the tip.
EDIT:
Looking closer at their tutorial section it seems they have many of the things I asked about. I'm definately gonna set aside a weekend for trying it out.
I have this same question. Is there anything new out there for 2014?
