    I agree that the handles need to have more than that single color,
    and the piece that connects the handle to the axe head looks like you just slapped on some random texture, and it looks stretched.

    I like the way the axe head is made, even if its not so realistic,
    and the guards on the sword isnt very realistic, but neither is fighting trolls and such.
    if it looks good, than keep it.

    Really nice work, I also agree about the handles, I kind of like the molten lava on the axe, it looks really nice and is a great stylish choice even though it's not realistic, but as shrew81 said, fighting dragons with a realistic axe ain't realistic either. =P

    For the sword: The handle is way too small even for a fantasy weapon. Even one-handed weapons should have handles that can fit both hands on it. Exceptions to that rule usually go to daggers, knives, and rapier-type weapons. (That's more of a personal belief, so disregard it if you want, but it's not a bad idea.)

    For the axe: Make the handle longer and why are there cracks on the pole of the axe? The pole of the axe should be one of the sturdiest parts of the weapon.
