Long time reader first time poster :P
I have been working on my art/game art for some time and i think i have most of the basics down.
But after seeing some of the work posted here I realized that i have to take things to the next level
and then some if i am ever going to get a job in the games industry.
Compared to some of you i have lot of learning to. Any way i am hoping that if I put in the effort
and get some CC my work should get better. (Note this is only a theory and my be effected by
beer)
So i will start off with some of my current work as i am not to sure i want to show my old stuff :P
This is a gun that i am making for a mod team.

It'd probably be worthwhile to learn Maya or xNormal for baking maps (if you don't know already), as by default they seem to output a more agreeable result.
Not to sure i am justify 5k for better normal maps. I am learning Xnormal tho and when i say learning i mean felling my way around it. There Tutorial confusese me :P
You're probably absolutely right, I've only messed with baking in Modo once with similar results to the above and didn't feel like researching it further because I'm so used to doing it in other programs. Does it not do well with all soft meshes in general? Since Modo is still absolutely stupid about not having proper smoothing groups/edge normals, it doesn't seem like it'd be worth setting up if you can't get good results with mostly soft normals.
Normal maps from Maya from soft meshes also look like ass when viewed in Modo, in my experience.
