Neat! This kind of reminds me of the original rainbowsix game, where you had the pre-operation planning like this, complete with waypoints/breech-grenadespampoints/defendpoints etc. I always thought that section of the game would have been better if they split that off into it's own thing...and here it is!
I was speaking about this game to someone at work the other day, he received the friend copy having never heard of it and said its awesome. I keep thinking of Crusader : No Remorse when I see it but that's probably me showing my age.
Ok just bought it a few days ago (theres a 30% sale going on right now up till 25th december if you enter the code "JINGLE" when buying), my impressions;
It's not what I thought it would be like, at first I thought it was a "single-sitting" type of game, but it's actually a more "casual" kind of pick up and play for a few minutes each day kind of thing.
If you've ever played any online turn-based game like email-chess/scrabble (words with friends, wordfeud), then that's what this game is like. It would be PERFECT for mobile gaming.
I am having a lot of fun playing it, even if it's only a few minutes each day. There's not a lot of players online usually so you can't really play it for hours in 1 sitting even if you wanted to right now, but when there are more players then I'm sure that won't be a problem. Also this isn't the type of game that requires online opponents to be active at the same time you are anyway.
The menus aren't very pretty, it could definitely do with a makeover. But once you've tried it for a few mins then the actual daily process of logging into each game will only take 3 clicks (one for opening program, 1 for logging in and then 1 for clicking on the active game - ideally that login should be automatic and they should get rid of the splash screens)
The gameplay is a bit like Valkyria Chronicles but much more streamlined and tactical. There are 5 unit types and they are all unique, and unlike Chess or Scrabble, the maps/units are randomly generated per game so you'll never be playing the exact same thing or be doing the same "opening moves" (and even if you do, the opponent's tactics will be different from the previous anyway).
I also love the whole "timing" thing where it can actually make a difference to a unit's life if you just waited 1 second before moving past a certain spot. The advanced gameplay is so cool and refreshing, it makes you feel so great when you actually predict everything correctly and get the kill.
I have not played all the gamemodes yet (there are 10), I'm actually not even sure what they are but the main deathmatch-mode is enough to satisfy me so far!
I foresee playing this game everyday from now on, just like I do with wordfeud on my android.
Oh yea, my username is Tom, invite me for some (continuous) games! There's a friends list on there and it records stats/replays for EVERY game (so you can watch other people's games if you want).
Got it last night and having a blast. Not played online yet cause the single player is so fecking good! Music and backstory are great and the writing is humorous and witty. Finding myself captivated by the whole setting.
Not played many games recently due to hype/disappointment so this is a breath of fresh air. This game has real polish, great job by the devs.
For me its a bit like subversion-lite, cant wait for that game too.
Got to say, i have been loving it, i played some of the beta and that was good, they have really cleaned it up since then, and the sp has a really nice difficulty curve
