Helloes,
im learning max2010 atm, coming from c4d, and i like alot of max features... BUT
im really missing the "select only visible" feature from c4d.
ignore backfacing seems to work, afaik, only with the direction of the normals, right?
this results in me having alot of trouble selecting polys of complex objects i.e. a head, without switching back and forth between the views or working with symmetry on.
is there any other way to select only the visible/seen by camera polys?
or a script?
thanks in advance

right click and go to the object properties and check the box for `backface cull` use that with ignore backfacing.
alt x will make it see through, and you can see it hides the polys facing away.
hope it helps a bit
Sadly the 'backface cull' option didn't change a thing, but the xray mode is quite decent, thanks!
@Vig:
select by view is certainly interesting, but a bit too random for my use.
yet i'll keep playing around with it.
I was secretly hoping someone might come up with some sort of raytracing-max script, which could tell which poly is seen or not.
don't you guys think this is a rudimentary feature? i mean 3dsMax is industry standard, isn't it?
enough of ranting, thanks for the help so far!
I agree it would be nice if it worked like C4D, I just don't see that happening tho =/ I'm pretty sure it would be considered corporate sabotage to purpose other features "that other apps have" no matter how much users would love them. "We don't copy people, they copy US!" kind of attitude, heh.
Long post short:
There are a LOT of things Max and especially Maya should have that they don't...
