Hey All,
My buddy (tsfalcon) showed me some really neat Warhammer stuff the other day and it got me wanting to model something from that universe. So I modelled up a Hydra Flak Cannon.
Wow, hey All!
Thanks for the great comments!! I had a lot of fun working on this one here.
To answer some questions. Right now I'm thinking of focusing on just some high res models, so will I bring it to the low poly / baking level? Most likely not. But if any of you guys would like to, I'd be more than happy to send you the Max file.
As for wireframes, I could post some up soon if y'all would like. In the meantime, I'm going to do some normal trickery with it. Just found out last night that my dinosaur of a computer doesn't like zbrush and max to talk to eachother
Again thanks for the kind words guys!! Appreciated!
Thanks Kessler! I like Blasting things! That's why I made a Flak Cannon
Sirdelita, I would like to bring it down to game res someday, but for now, I'm really wanting to focus more on adding some high poly content to my portfolio
Not a bad plan, sometimes it's nice to just make a couple high poly models for a bit. Out of curiosity, do you think you'll be focusing on warhammer assets? That would be pretty radical.
It's tempting to take it down to game res, even if just for practice, but when I think about doing that it makes it tempting to just make one of my own
Hey OrganizedChaos,
I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing next. I'm mainly just looking at stuff that inspires me, or makes me say 'Oh damn that's cool!' and then try to replicate it on the computer.
I've been wanted to do a high res version of the Mako from Mass Effect for a while now, so I think I might move onto that... But my buddy over at Relic really wants me to do a Chaos model for Warhammer... So we'll see! I'm just having a ton of fun right now, and that's what's really getting me jazzed!
I used that same base for another WH40k flakk cannon (http://www.konradbeerbaum.com). It's interesting to see how someone else tackled the same concept.
Very nice job, I'm disappointed to see you aren't going to be taking it any farther though.
Thanks doeseph! It was WitchCraft I tells you!! Mwaahahaaaa... Seriously though, I found the ref, looked at what would be a good starting point (for this it was the lower center base), and I just started to hack away at it.

Whats your plan for it ?
Are you planning to render/animate it?

Konrad, I was looking at your model, super awesome job man!! I really like how you've textured it!!
I started with a cube and just started to push and pull poly's
You lie! Sorcery must have been involved.
Great model, I really should try a high poly model here soon...
