3ds Max problem

Hi, I cannot open video files neither in the RAM player, nor in the Rendering Menu --> View Image file, nor using it as Environment Map (background). In my other Windows I can do that. What's wrong? I tried reinstalling the codecs but it didn't help.

I think we need more info in order to help you. What version of windows are you in and what version of windows you had it working in?

The first Windows is XP Pro SP3 (not working), the second one si XP Media Center SP3 (working).
3ds Max Design 2011.
To further explain: In the "Open" dialog, when I point to a video file (avi or mpg) it neither generates preview, nor opens it when i press the Open button (just nothing happens).
I can open still images (jpg, bmp...etc) without problem.

is it installed on your machine?

K-Lite codec pack installed on both Windowses

Try installing FFDShow, then restarting your machine.

FFDShow is already installed, together with many other codecs. The pack is full.

Well then it sounds like your Max install is messed up. Try re-installing?

Yes, several times. Tried 2011 and 2010

Ah... is this 64bit? I have heard QuickTime isn't working in 64bit, not sure about other formats though. Running 32bit here.

couldn't be 64bit. XP pro sp3 is only made for 32bit, XP pro 64bit only goes to service pack 2.

Anybody know how to fix this?

Everytime I close the window the popup appear, but anyway all the configuration are still saved. Annoying

Since the settings are save I doubt it is the User account controll, but might be.
If you are on Vista or Win7 that is.

fashion_m: can you view avi or movie files at all on that computer (in quick time say)...

sounds like user rights.

in windows7 i couldn't delete files i had made with XP
and it was asking me to take permission.. from me

on my own drive on the same machine, with the same username on the same filesystem and every thing the same BUT OS.

Neavah, yes, I can view AVI and any kind of video files on this PC, including QuickTime.
