Hoy,
thought i'd try and create a female version of good old Wolverine (without the bulging muscles and the facial hair). Im still trying to settle on the overall proportions of the character, as im going for reasonably toned but not over the top, however the subtleties of the female body perplex me to no end.
Here's my effort so far. All suggestions are welcome.

She will have her claws. Essentially Im just making a female version of the Origins Wolverine. However, right now im just trying to find some idea proportions so all the attire (claws, jacket, etc) will come after.
Sorry Dejawolf, no sideburns :P. I'll probably just lengthen her head hair around that area.
EDIT: Should have posted front and side shots initially:
also, if she will be the hero, try to give her appropriate proportions and muscle definition rather than doing basic female ones.
keep up!
Thanks Conte, i've fixed the sie of the head. However, regarding the proportions, what i'm trying to attempt is like an actress playing the character as opposed to a comic representation of the character (i.e. more realistic proportions) simply because it also gives me a chance to teach myself regular female proportions.
Heres an update so far:
Ive tried to give the face a bit more of a feminine feel as well as making modifications to the body. I want to hopefully start working on the clothes and other attire as soon as possible.
It's looking good for a base mesh, obviously still needs some more defining. I'm curious to see how you are going to handle making her look "wolverine-ish" Good luck.
Don't want to go overboard on the clothing as I want the silhouette of her natural figure to shine through the most so this will be minimal. Still deciding on hair style (as this will be alpha'ed planes and probably the most complicated part of the project.
I dont think the retractable claws make sense on wolverine anyway, they have to move through a flexible joint. If he retracts or detracts them when his hands are in the wrong position, well it'd be painful and useless, sticking out of the wrong place, or it wouldnt work(and I doubt theres room for three blades and still maintain full functionality).
Maybe a similar do like the character from Aeon Flux.
I can't really give any good suggestions, other than play with some stockier, meaner proportions, stronger jaw maybe?
(and I give two thumbs meh to x23 there)
I think I may have to rethink this a little and maybe move closer to a more "Lady Deathstrike" type of personality. Perhaps this could be an "alt" costume for her.
I am still trying to keep the proportions more "movie" like as opposed to comic book like.
Thanks for all the feedback, im going to have another look at this.
Did a quick liquify in PS to show an example - you could probably go much further with the contrast here since if you're going pure comic female:
So I need that final push to get this finished and posed. Here's the current w.i.p:
recreating another superhero or making a new one up from scratch.
Step one, change in proportions. Heres my first update (Old proportions on the left).
Where is the bad fashion sense? Where is the unkept hair?
Since im straying away from the whole "Wolverine" concept, ive done some quick paintovers as to what the next character might look like. Ive kept the costumes relatively simple as to really try and show the underlying anatomy.
Finally got a low poly and texture built for the new "Super-heroine". Currently at 8'463 tri's with 2048 d/n/s textures, i'm going to rig her within the next few days and give her a decent pose.....when I get around to teaching myself Max's rigging system.
