Autodesk Assistance Program for laidoff workers

Just learned about this today, pretty cool offer.

Basically if you're either unemployed from one of the industries they cater to (architecture, engineering, design, entertainment, or manufacturing), or if you're a honorably-discharged military vet, you can get free 13-month licenses of some of their main products (Max and Maya, but not Mudbox, boo).

They also offer steep discounts to buy, like 50% off. Nice!

Can't use it for commercial gigs, blah blah blah, but it is a nice way to keep your skills fresh until you land the next gig...

Not bad, Autodesk, not bad.

That is great news, also i am not sure if you have noticed that for subscription members they offer license at home. That is if your workplace has bought subscription, you can transfer your license using a fully registered 3dsmax version at home with the support options it entails

The next really cool thing that i would love to see autodesk doing would be a nice indie licensing program! say along with UDK indie license comes optionally 3dsmax with monthly subscription fee or something like that.

Upto 50% discount on software. Unless your in the UK. As per usual We get stung by higher costs and less to no discounts.

wow, You have to admit AD are turning their rep around recently. Especially with people like Ken taking the time to talk to users, and give straight answers.

seems to be restricted to the non irish world . pretty frustrating. we pay more for the licenses and dont get these nice concessions

Turns out i registered on the wrong portal. Its sorted now.

If your registering for this make sure you are at the correct site for your country otherwise the serial you get wont work

This is pretty cool and something I never would have thought AD capable of, being the corporate monstrosity that it is. =]

I think it would be cool to see them offer indie deals too... maybe even work out some sort of 'use it on the cheap for now, and when you profit, then pay us for the full license' type thing. Houdini's licensing is the next best thing to giving it away for free like blender. If AD went that route too I don't think they'd ever have to worry about competition or cheaper alternatives again.
