Starting a new project. Full project details coming soon, but too kick it all off, I thought I would share some prelims for the character and his weapon. There are a lot of kinks to work out yet w/ details in clothing, and i'm not sure i'm happy w/ the weapon design just yet, but it's getting there. I also will be working on a sculpt of the character in Super Sculpy (all the materials are ready, just doing prelim work first)
Once again Jmiles have emerged from the ground with a mouse as his weapon and lowpoly as his strength..Looking forward to this thread also!! *as usual*
I dont know why but something about your work clicks me *in terms of learning* which usually doesnt happen in other threads in pimp and preview.
Oh ya, you work with edit mesh instead of polies alot!
Forgot to ask you in your previous thread. Do you know anywhere I can find the tutorials for lowpoly model like this? Or did you figure it out by playing around with them...
oh yeah man.. pretty much practice makes perfect... but my biggest influence of low poly characters is Tom Tallian. His work is amazing and a great place to learn to create good low poly meshes and textures.. check it out
Once again your low-poly work is hard to crit except for the last thread where you couldnt figure out how to get the view'rs attention by setting the models up right. =\
This one is on the start so cant really say, except for the comment that the character is too fat.. <.<
just some more roundness on the pauldron, to fit the natural curve of the shoulders.
Just a suggestion
sorry for bad paintover, Wacom not working right.
@ P442-- ah yes, that would make more sense-- thanks.. donno why I didn't think of that. I think more for the low poly prelim model, I did that on purpose.. for something like a zbrush or (in this case) a sculpt in super sculpy.. that would be necessary.. ya still got me thinking on a more elaborate design for the pauldron surface. ;P
@ Japhir-- yeah that's exactly what i did actually.. Took a screen shot of the silhouette from 3DS Max, then sized it up to about 8 inches (project space 8.5 x 11, 300 dpi).. I used the rulers in Photoshop with the project windows as close and accurate to each other as i could.. really helped me line up all the different areas. The front, side and back views are 8 inches tall, and the arms are 4 inches, I believe. Then I simply did a paint over. So the character, when done in sculpty, will be about this height.

btw, so the lowpoly was just to get the silhouette you drew earlier (the thumbnail) correct in all views so you could draw your concept over that?
