Maya controlled smooth

Is there a way to control the smooth in Maya like you can control the turbosmooth in 3dsMax with smoothing groups?

    Well you can do the same thin using "hard edges" in Maya for the base, but to keep it when smoothing it depends if your using smooth preview or actually smoothing. If using mesh>smooth you can turn on "preserve hard edges", for previews though use the crease tool (edit mesh>crease tool). Both options will give different results however.
