I was thinking about buying an Asus laptop ($500 - $600) and was wondering if anyone has any experience with one? Is it a good brand? The kid at Best Buy told me they are one of the best brands and I was a bit surprised to hear that. I always thought Dell was good, but I was misinformed I guess.

Put on a fake mustache and glasses and go ask about the sony I bet he tells you the same thing. ha.

That said for budget laptops they're pretty good... But don't expect too much.

I think Asus laptops are excellent bang for buck. Reliable, with decent performance for the price.

I have a c90s Asus laptop from a few years ago. It was cheap for the performance at the time, screen is great, but I've had it overheat on me and the laptop speakers on maximum volume can barely be heard. Past the heat and speakers have no complaints, and to be fair it was considered an 'experimental' model as it could have its gpu swapped and had some overclocking features built in (never used them though).

Overall I'd say they're a good brand, and I would buy from them again.

Yahoo ran a story on the most reliable laptop brands - Asus was at the top of the list for reliability. I was surprised too.

I have an Asus G60 from Best Buy, the one with the Nvidia GTX260M, so far it's been a very nice laptop with incredible graphics performance for a laptop. It DOES run hot, but I'm sure it's because of that beefy graphics inside.

just bought 2 K50's Asus models within the last week for my girlfriend and family. They're running pretty good, and friends have had good experiences with Asus laptops (gaming ones too)

Asus is one of the few brands that actually makes the motherboards and several other parts that go into their machines..leads to more quality control in the build process it would seem. I've seen lower failure rates on Asus than on most other brands

I've just gone through the process of purchasing a new laptop. It was a more expensive one than what you've gone for - a top of the range gaming machine kinda deal (Asus G73JH), but the general consensus from the people in the know was that Asus is a good way to go.

Looking through what was said, HP is also a reasonable option for price versus quality. Dell typically aren't great performers when it comes to graphics.

If you're planning to use it for artwork, look for a monitor with IPS or VA. I don't actually know what theose mean, but those monitors are far better when it comes to colour calibration.

Make of that what you will. I'm not tech guy. I'm just repeating what other people who claim to know things told me.
