So, I saw this earlier today and I was completely surprised. This movie was fantastic.... and the 3D was great as well. Dreamworks really outdid themselves. Got to see a few buddies on the credits as well!
The style of the characters was fantastic. I loved the way the vikings and dragons looked... it was really refreshing given some of the more reason styles chosen for CG movies.
Yeah, I thought this movie was looking pretty meh, another of the kiddie movies slapped together and sold by saying it's in 3-D... and then I read a gret review on it, and saw they mentioned Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders worked on it!! These being the masterminds behind the amazing movie Lilo & Stitch. And now... I kinda really want to see it.
And Gavku, I can see why you want that book. Those designs are all frickin' AMAZING!!
Caught the extended trailer in 3D before Alice in Wonderland today (took my daughter, was a let down for both of us). It looks like it has a lot more story depth than the shorter TV trailers suggest. The 3D also looked great. I think I went from 'meh' to 'going next weekend'.
Just got back from seeing it. It was amazing. I absolutely loved that each dragon had a distinct personality with how they moved around. Also, the fat nerdy viking was awesome.
Loved it! Very enjoyable, well-paced and funnier than I was expecting.
Jackablade: I didn't much like the look of the dragons in the trailer either, but it really worked well in the movie. In general I thought the visual style was great!

It kicked ass. I will probably see it multiple times in the theater. Only Dragon I didn't like the visual for was the one that set itself on fire. Its head structure didn't match the others.
When I first saw the trailer some time back, dragon design put me off.
After seeing it? Eating my own words, everything worked perfectly together, story wise it wasn't groundbreaking but it was very well executed and actually left me in a good mood after watching it
Easily one of the best animated movies I've ever seen.

I'm with you there, it seemed that they went all the way with the concept on that one. Because it did look like the actual concept.
As for the movie, the Scottish voices bugged me, since they aren't actually vikings. But overall, a really great film, everybody should check it out. Shame that Ubermind is going back to typical Dreamworks.
I took my lady to see it in 3d when it came out and it was unbelievable, like many others I wasn't overwhelmed by the trailer but the movie was amazing haha. Reading the reviews was funny though, apparently every movie these days has a huge political stance as opposed to just being a good and fun movie

Saw this in the 2D version, can I get any confirmation from anyone who watched both 2d and 3d?
