Hey folks, I'm a 2d artist that picked up modeling recently and I thought I'd post something to get some feed back. This is my third model that I have built. I'm hoping that by posting it I can get some texturing and modeling tips. I already made an attempt at texturing this but the texture came out very painterly, with a very strong light source, much like the concept I did. I'm not sure how intense the lighting should be on the texture. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
as far as the lightsource and style is concerned its your decision. In a more next gen environment for games like dragon age or game that use the unreal 3 engine you want the color map to be basically without a light source, because you'd be making it with a normal and specular map as well, that way the lighting is real time and changes around the object. However the normal map requires you make a high polygon version of this model, and then bake information from the high to the low.
You just have to decide which route you want to go, painterly with built in light source, or make a high poly mesh and go from there.
Well since I'm a 2d guy I'd want to paint in my own lighting into the texture, I just got frustrated cause I was able to do it for the initial concept but my painted texture just wasn't translating well onto the 3d model.
