more doodling anyway, will get a base sculpt squeezed out in next couple of days I expect. need to work on design elements and refine the shape more - the mane is in some sort of hairnet i think that mught just be shyte and I will change it i think.
blobfest happening on hands atm but i was pulling my hair with some pipeline nonsense for hours today so the mood has died! I have it sorted now so I will be on form tomorrow.
Problem was max .obj importer doing some scale correction I didn't relise, gave me a lot of grief!
@vcool - yeah its placeholder atm, will be a patterned mane-cover of some sort, like a net. at the moment it is some generic alpha from zbrush. i'll do that in a mo actually, it does look wierd even as placeholder.
i got it from the matcap downloader on the pixologic site afaik. if not i will put them up somewhere, this afternoon some time - just off to watch clash of the titans!
this is the most unique idea and wild interpretation in the competition, I hope you finish. I will say that the Leg muscles are way less defined than the arm muscles, I know tights will go over the legs but I think some definition would still show through.
I think you'd do much better if you posed the model. He stands there in basemesh pose with a rapier beside him. You should have made him sort of shifting his weight onto the rapier, or something more interesting.
The other gripe I had with it is that the lion's face could have been more menacing, or perhaps mischievous. Right now he looks rather, well, sheepish.
Ah the posing. i was wondering about that. I will have to get the hang of it, but I can see that point.
I will do a v1.1 patch post-comp and stick it int he what are you working on thread. I also setup a render in max so I can make a non-zb render which will look nicer.
yeah with transpose master, it was not perfect but much more streamlined than doing it manually!
when you run it it creates a low res of all your subtools which you can pose, then you save a special file from that, and go back to your original model and load the pose which you previously saved. It worked fine. I posed things like the hands on their own afterwards as the subtools do not interact at that area.
Once i got the hang of the transpose tool again it was quite fast to do, especially as you can grab stuff with the move tool too to correct the forms as you go. Really fun to do!

so I will be feeling out the arty end of it and trying to loosen myself up a bit.
here's some 2 pronged approach, some sketches and a doodly sculpt.
apologies for not lion-looking-ness, I am not diving into refs this morning, just had 30 mins to play and wanted to get the ball rolling.
im leaning to brute type character, but i will crank out a coujple pages of more thumbs and see what comes out. just knocking rust off atm.
comments welcomed, even if t is early days!
to get familiar with what lion looks like.

thanks folks!
Good fun this, and really knocking the rust off as I go along. Feels nice.
Fur/muscles come next. Have done some cloth today including cape but not in these pics, will save for the last one.
Any more crit/comment would be great.
I'm about to need to pose a zbrush sculpt with multiple subtools.
Looks awesome by the way.
