Here's what I have:
I am using Maya 8. I am rendering with mental ray. I set it to production quality and I am using raytrace shadows. The hair on this model is a blinn. The color file is a png that when I loaded it, it automatically assigned to the transparency as well. It also has bump map that is a png file. The blinn's other channels are all at default settings. The shadows are casting on to a default labert material. I am using a spotlight to light the scene. When it renders, the shadow is in the shape of the hair alpha map I created but there is also a faint shadow cast by the geometry of the hair as if it is not completely transparent. I want the areas that are alpha mapped to be transparent and not show up in the shadow. Any ideas how to do this?
