Not too bad considering it's your first attempt! Textures look alright. However, your texture and model proportions are way off. The cracked stone texture you have on the lighthouse is way too big. It makes the lighthouse seem tiny. The dock support posts are also too tall in comparison to the house imo. Maybe this is what you were going for, but it's just seems off. The roof tiling on the house should not be sideways like that in my opinion. It should be running straight down, not at an angle.
You need some shape variations on the house. we have come a lot of way to generate natural organic looking objects and believable scenery with highly detailed models and textures.
use what we have in our disposal!
learn how to generate nice ambient occlusion maps, add more realistic detail to your textures.
it's not easy, but you can learn.
the best advise i was ever given is this,
Observe nature, buildings, people, creatures, take photos of interesting walls rocks doors.. anything that you find interesting.
Whatever software you use learn at least the basic tools well. most importantly basic modeling tools and UV mapping tools.
just a question tho. Do people name threads stuff like "my first model! or, starting from scratch! etc, because they want people to say stuff like, "thats amazing, you have never seen a 3d app before and you made a something, yet, anything! simply amazing that someone could sit down and in one attempt make several assets and a render!
not to sound negative, i hope you can read this with a joking tone in your mind voice.
No worries man, this is your first step. Don't listen to anyone but only for suggestions and ways to improve your work.
since you are making a model though it will be critiqued for what it is. not for your intent.
and it is a humble first attempt. I'm looking forward to see more!
nobody was born with a mouse in his hand spinning environments for god of war and LOTR films. We all started like you did. (most pretend they forgot) or are at an advantage because nobody saw their first work.
Everyone here started someplace, keep at it ask questions. I am mosly a level designer aswell, but ive been known to model something from time to time.
