Hi fellow Polycounters! I've decided to participate in my first ever online modeling competition with Game Artisans' Final Fantasy Tribute. (I couldn't even resist, I'd always wanted to do a bust sculpt of Edea since I learned Zbrush!) But I want feedback from Polycounters even moreso than the GA clan!

So obviously, my character is Edea Kramer from Final Fantasy VIII.

I've been working on her basemesh in what little spare time I have over the last two weeks or so. I won't have access to zbrush until next week, so until then I'm going to keep messing around with what I have, adding more hair ornaments and trying to make her face look more Edea-ish.

I'm still not completely happy with the model, every time I look at it I see more problems. But I also know that people here more than anywhere else are awesome at helping with these types of things! So please, art crits are very much appreciated! :D

    Hi Mega,

I beleive that you are rushing things. Take few steps back to just the basic head proportions, when you are doing especially a stylized 'anime face' you basically want to make sure you are getting enough reference, whether it is concepts or even the ingame model to look at.

That being said, she has an elegant feminine face. Your eyes are too high up, nose is too large and mouth isn't defined well enough. Getting the likeness of something is really about looking at the positive and the negative space. How do forms connect/ how much space is between them.

Also when you are not sure, paint over your model the shape of the eyes and such and you will see what I am talking about. I hope this helps, good luck!
