hi guyz...started a new character for my portfolio...i will do a boysoldier livin in the near future...somekind manga inspired but i dont know exactly where i will end up...here is my progress so far... c&c are welcome...
very cool character so far. really like the alternative nature. makes me think "tank boy"
with that said. i feel you could exagerate him to fit into that manga comic style you mentioned. maybe add more cuts and scrapes with bandages and bandaids. and give him a shotgun! he seems like a quick runner type character. and i love me some tf2
cant wait to see where you go with this
rad, not enough badass shoe modeling out there. reminds me of the kids from that Animatrix short Beyond.
that being said, I don't think he's appealing enough yet, his face is mean and old looking
thanks guys ...:)
BetelGeist- yeah "tank girl" its in my mind ...i will play a bit with weapons...my main idea was to give him a modern laser cannon like kaneda had in akira...we´ll see...
konstruct- thanks man ...i ma glad you like it...
Baj Singh- thanks ..yeah we´ll see ...
Neox- yeah it´s no child ...he´s definetly a teen maybe 17 or so ...crazy, without fear, little muscular, but not a man...what you mean would be the right name for that class?... thanks im glad you like it so far...
cadyw- thanks ...oh that is good if he reminds you of Beyond its my favorite animatrix episode...yeah i won´t do a child...
rumblesushi- thanks ...so around 17...
nothing much sculpted yet...two days for the shoes...and 5 days for the character till now...but the main part is done out of zbrush...but im slow because i have no concept and im trying stuff and model a lot for testing ...
here is an update ..as mentioned its a lot of testing so tell me what you think...im not sure it´s going the right way...
sorry roosterMAP that my character doesnt fits your thoughts...im not doing an african boysoldier...i thought more of a "tankgirl" like character ...and more manga inspired...more fantasy you know ...
i like the way this is going, i dig his attitude. If I may throw my 2 cents in, the cloth needs a lot of work, and you could push his silhouette some more. looking good!
Im a huge fan of the helmet- without it, hes just kind of younger marine guy with some interesting gear. gives him character.
something seems weird about the legs. I`m having a tough time putting my finger on it, but i think maybe his shins are a little long, or maybe his legs need to be a bit fatter./
It could just be the shin guards tho because it looks akay from the back. Maybe try loosing one of the shin guards to see if it sorts anything out-
Any chance you can detail how you went about making all those harnesses and straps, they are done quite well, and i don't think ive ever seen so many on one character before
BTW that drink cup is a great idea, that little stuff is what helps make a character out of a model. Tells some back story and helps set the mood.
thank you all guyz for your comments ...really much appreciated...
drillerkiller - absolutely- the cloth are not final atm. i would like to know what you mean and how i should push the silhouette...
rumblesushi- nice explanation for him- i will use that:
The high def spec on a slightly more imaginative, arcadey character design.
konstruct thanks- yeah i will try some more (legs/shins) i would like to have them also little more asymetrically...i´m opened for any advice improving this fella...
hijak- most of them were done by purely polygon pushing...but i have done a little step-by-step tutorial for the smal strap from his right leg ...this part was a bit trickier...so i hope it hepls you a bit...

And looks like a teenager to me, which I assume is the intended age?
Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to sculpt that?
