Tips for creating spherical Levels(try 2)

Seems the first thread got an error. I'll try again with this.. :)

Hi, I'm a 3dsmax modeller and I've been in charge to create some planet-levels like those at Mario_Galaxy game.. Lowpoly art ,btw..

Could you guys give me some clues about the best way to create those kind of maps?

I need to choose between making them from scratch, composed by tile blocks, or just use a geo-sphere for the base... I could also do some assets or pieces then bend them and the put altogether... Which option do you guys think it fits better for a platform game like this?

Another problem is to figure how to put some road paths and plants on the surface. Would do Scatter tool do the trick?
