Help me remember this old awesome game!

Hey guys,

I recently felt the urge to play this old game I always used to play, but I couldn't even come up with the name... .

So it's a shooting game, 2d, viewed from the side. You could upgrade your space-ship with all sorts of bigger guns and engines etc. and the graphics where pretty good. I remember the gun/engine upgrade icons where hexagonal and with a yellow stroke around them.

Any ideas?

How old? i'm thinking about Jets 'n Guns but that's pretty recent. Though awesome.

I'm not really sure how old it is.. i played it when i was around 12-15 so about 5-7 years old? but it could be older because the guy who got it for us was already in his 30s at the time ... difficult .

But it's not Jets 'n Guns from what I can tell from the screenshots.

It is top down... otherwise it fits the description you gave perfectly. Awesome game either way, and if you can find it there is a banana gun in store for you.

Raptor Call of the Shadows? Man I loved this game. You could upgrade engines and weapons. Although this game is also top down like Tyrian.

the only horizontal shooter with hexagons that I can recall is Thunder Force V, but that came out in like 1998 and was for the Saturn

OHHH MAN!! This game!! Yeah, this one was AMAZING. Never knew what it was called. :P I LOVED watching my bro play this all the time when I was really young. (I really sucked at this type of game--still do--but I loved watching my older bro play cause he was really good. :P)

This game freaked me out, oddly similar to the game mod i was planning to make for starcraft II.

tumerboy: it was 2d (old) horizontal, the menu was greenish/blueish and the game itself had many colors. (i think it was about 640x480 in resolution).

some cool looking games have been listed, but none so far that is THE ONE :P. thanks!

Ahhh, Einhander, one of the best shooters EVAR! Thing is Japhir, I think I know which one you mean, though I can't remember the stupid title. There was a shareware demo, right? And it had prerendered graphics, and you could attach different kinds of turrets bought for cash inbetween stages... right? Definitely not a Japanese game...

I don't know how it was released, I got it from our computer-fixing dude back then. But you could attach different turrets, add extra ones to the top or bottom etc. The cockpit screen was bluish and the hull yellow-ish if i remember correctly. And the upgrade menu -like said before- was green/blue with hexagonal shapes, and the available parts spinning around. And there was a large image of the ship on top there.

I might try and mail the guy who gave it to me way back then, see if he still remembers. Now it's becoming something obsessive :P. I've spent an hour or so googling images .

It's called Stargunner, and is a DOS game, so i'd probably have to use dosbox or something like that.

Awesome that you found it! Japhir this makes for a good thread if everyone out there wants to find an old game they used to play, I really liked hi-octane <(Dos game, not PSX but they must have just ported it over) in case anyone wants to give that a go.

I want to say let's make this an on going thread cause I too have a game I forgot the name of not sure if it's full on dos but it might be.

It was sort of a soccer game were you would ride a vehicle that was much like the ones in star-wars but you had a grapple hook to grab what would be a soccer ball ( I keep saying soccer ball but it wasn't it was the goal item) the grapple hook also was used to make a clothing-line (to knock the other opponent off).

It was fun for me but it's been years since I played it, it's pretty old, but was fun back in the day so I was wondering if anyone could find it. Was about 12-16 years ago or so.

ok, here's one...

its on old arcade-only (afaik) motorcycle game (the ones that had u actually sitting on one and stuff)
u had a button on the front that let u jump, and u had special turbo power that released these bright-blue "circles" behind u
u were a police bike of sorts, chasing villains and slamming into them n shit
