I don't have the experience to offer much critique, but the painted bust is unsettling. I think the skin shader is dropping it into the uncanny valley.
Thats interesting. Its usually facial features and particularly facial animation that draws people to mention the Uncanny Valley. The skins a work in progress but theres only so far I can go with my skills and software to get the skin looking real.
I think the problem with the skin is it's too uniformly shiny. He looks like he just got back from the gym. Should only have that level of polished shine on the nose, lips, and top of forehead. Rest needs to be more matte.
That render is awesome but I agree about the uncanny valley feeling - can't quite put my finger on it, I think it's mainly the eyes and lack of natural human expression that makes it look robotic.
A little tweaking to give him some expression and focus for his eyes would probably help a ton for making it look more convincing.
I think the materials are actually fairly spot-on, if anything I'd brighten and tighten the specular on his flesh a little.
I actually feel that the hair has no weight. It looks like you painted it on a flat surface (which you did). I think you need to lift the hair section up more so it looks like its on his head.
care to share any details about how you set up your skin shader?
I don't mean like a step-by-step process, more just your general thought process and which methods you used, as well as stuff you might have tried and didnt like
ack. Is his suit made of vinyl? why so shiny? Face looks pretty great. texture & sculpt are very life-like but the hair or lack thereof is spoiling things for moi.
Awesome work, it just looks a little too mixed race for the Victorian era. Still, if thats what you were going for it looks great. The suit looks more or less spot on now. Sweet texture work.

Well if the charcter is english it willwork because england is and was cosmopolitan then and if he is american I think the look works aswell.

Overall looks fantastic, though.
