I wanted to edit my post but my connection collapsed... Will you add some different units or weapons? I suppose that a machinegun will be really badass!
I dig it, but i think there needs to more of a noticeable difference between class silhouettes. it looks very nice, and I love the idea of exploring derelict space ships and fighting these creatures.
Well looks like you got buyers already lined up, locked and loaded haha. I totally love the look of this. Some people mentioned X-Com, another mentioned Fallout Tactics (LOVE THAT GAME). Yay for isometric games, we need more of those these days.
I like the character designs alot. But like others said, some more differentions between classes or character types would be great, and it doesn't even have to be full blown re-designs. Just more subtle changes, similar to what you did with the shoulder armor.
On the UI, all you really need is a way to select each character, an area to issue orders and your mini map. To keep it uncluttered. You can move the minimap to the top corner and it can be like a tab, which can come out or hide when selected. The equipment each character has currently can also automatically hide or come out each time you select a different character. Clean UI ftw. But personally, I'd take any UI design that reminds me of Fallout or other old isometric games from the 90s.
O and by the way, the images on page 2 seem to have a problem with Photobucket.
awesome man! I started a game a while back with similar theme (space dudes fighting bugs and mechs in spaceship), but it fell apart . Really hope you make this

hey you too!? .. this proofs that this theme has a lot more potential, deepness and fans than a starcraft sequel could satisfy. lets colaborate and make a scifi-squadbased-rts in rotten spaceships and bases! ..this is what i want to play!
last but not least: any updates on this goodlooking approach?
That was so awesome SyaPed. I can't help but picture the soldiers talking to each other with a pop-up character portrait and scrolling dialogue ala some 16-bit RPG
myles - Cute? Cute!? Nah they are pretty cute :P You're getting way ahead of me but I'd like to keep things 3d for nicer animation blending and other advantages.
Yamo - Haha yes I really want to capture some of that nostalgic gamey fun vibe from the old 16-bit games.
Me thinks I'm going to start investigating all these new indie game enginesss....

This makes me want a new Xcom game so hard
Ninjas - Everything so far is modeled and rendered. Yeap went over by hand with the portrait thing.
Yeah I don't understand why a decent studio hasn't picked up what so many list as one of the greatest games ever!
'bugging" hehe
You don't say "bugging"? We do here in MA
I think its because of the bug enemies
Great work, keep going!
PS: you called me "Mr. Daytona" in the first page... XD
Oops, sorry Drayton. That's what late night posting does :P
larolaro - Yeah the gifs play at different speeds for me depending on browser or if saved

Muzz - Yes! I'm hoping that'll work so I can use the advantages of 3d but keep the 2d look with a fixed orthographic camera.
Although a bunch of images on the first page aren't showing, says Photobucket limit exceeded
Just mucking around with ways to put sequences together, kind of a bitch so far! Make sure you choose 480p.
Are the character being converted to animated tiles or are you keeping them 3D for the IPhone?
