Creating a custom character for UT3

For my university module we are required to create a custom character and put them into the Unreal engine. Having not done this before its a new experience, i would appreciate any guideance/information people see relevant to my work or the importing process.

At present i have a base mesh completed (below) that i intend to rig and test out in the engine before doing any high poly modelling
