Hey guys! I'm Zelenkov. I've been modeling for about a year and currently a student studying 3D and trying to improve. I'm taking a few classes and decided to post up some work for critique, so I can improve. I'll post new stuff every week. Here is my highpoly of PPK Walther I've been working on. Cheers!
Right now, I'm trying to decide what pieces to do next. And it has been adviced to me to pick something interesting and unique, instead of the regular SciFi guns and props.
You are picking some really odd props Gene, I would suggest going the route of the knight helmet, but find something that is more mideval and less zbrush detail oriented than some of your choices ( such as the greek helmet ) Make sure once you find a helmet, you have references of it in front/profile/and 3/4 minimum as the more information you have the easier it will be to create it within 3d.
Thanks guys! Wow! So many responses The masses have spoken - 1,2, and 9 are on my list!
Spark - I was actually going to model those details in 3D, so I could get my poly skills up. But I'll find something easier as far as the helmet goes. And afterwards I'm considering 1,2 ans 9 but we'll see if I nail the medevil helmet. I'll post it as soon as I find one.
Alright, it was suggested to me to do something that was not so complex, and to pick a medieval helm to give me some more practice before I move on to one of the pieces above. And so I found something. Gimli's Helm from Lord Of The Rings. Don't judge It is by far most interesting helm with lots of detail and I think it'll be a good practice.
Hey man, looking good! I would spend some extra time to tigthen those edges a bit here and there. come back with a fresh eye tomorow or whenever and give it more love.
one thing i will suggest is that it seems like you are trying to make holes with squares on the back of the helmet pieces. I would suggest u simply that geometry. and use a 6 sided cylinders top, as your base and create those holes like that using floters.
Also, that wang dong looking thing comming out of the helmet, really looking like a dong on your helmet. Migth want to short it a little bit. ( im serious, look at the stub comming out of the helmet, and then look at yours. ) :P
Very nice attention to detail on both your models. If you texture the helmet it please try to make it look like the first reference image, I love the wear on it.
Nice efficient modeling you have there. I just had to say that even though you choose this one, you must do that elephant mask #9 sometime. Its pretty sick and actually it would be interesting to see some character wearig that.
Hey guys! Here is another model I'm doing. Its a greek column and it was a challange to model it. Still need to tweak some stuff, but I think I'm close to being finished.
wow...i think u did pretty good with the pillar. It still needs a little more love in some parts. Just minor tweaks really.
I did a paint over some areas that u need to define for the overall silhouette, right now things are a little flat. Right now, the floral ( the leaves from the last pic)l designs, look a little bubbly. See if i u can get that to look a tad more solid.
its cool to model all those little details , but the way you are doing it is that zoomed out it reads like noise/ are incomprehensible , i suggest maybe simplify the shapes and make them bigger than they are to ammend for it sick modeling tho ^^
For the slot machine, what do you have your subdivisions on? Because it looks like it is not tessellated enough to support the detail. In the first image you can see lots of places where you can see the individual polys catching light and it doesn't give a smooth appearance (at the top around the three circles, at the top on the sides and on the ball of the lever for example). Try a higher subdivision level and see if it's smoother. Really enjoy your modeling though, loved the Walther
Thanks Godemper0r! Yea, I'm in maya and there is only toggle for sub-d. its not like turbo smooth where u can up the divisions. I'll work on fixing that. thanks for the tip though

And here is the ref I used.

Still need to put a little more love into it and finish some stuff.
