Problem with Bibed Vertex assignment (Max)

Hey guys!

Just trying to give my lowpoly Tali a cool pose for the low poly thread and my portfolio so I thought I´d use the chance to learn working with Max´s Biped.
So far it´s been kind of a pain in the ass...

The whole envelope mode feels clunky and it´s hard to keep certain bones from affecting nearby vertexes.
I read the tutorials about the vertex mode but some vertexes just seem to completly ignore my tweaking alltogether.

So far I´ve only worked with the skin modifier and while it uses the same principle I could just assign vertexes and their weighting manually.
Is this possible with the physique modifier somehow?
