Hey people... i dont normally come here but i know a few people who do... i just wanted to show off the model i had been working on for a little while.. so here it is: http://members.iinet.net.au/~chrisconte/
Seriously, you nailed the rendering and texturing on this one. Some of them look like they're just pictures of the table top models. Excellent work. Ultramarines are always a good idea.
that is the best re-creation of a mini I've seen- even after seeing the texture and looking at the curves, part of me STILL thinks it's a photo of a model! excellent work!
I thought what you were showing in those screen shots was the miniature you were going to model, using them only as reference. Imagine my surprise when I saw the texture sheets for this miniature look-a-like.
Great work, but was the miniature paint effect intentional? It looks like it.
I agree with the others. Really damn near impossible to tell if its an actual photo or not. My question is, why did you want it to look so much like a mini? No question it takes a ton of skill to do this, but I would think you would want it to look more like a real life type dreadnought. Say if one truly existed.
I'm not sure if it would even take any more skill than what you have displayed here, I'm just curious is all.
I think the depth of field was very well used to give the effect that the dreadnought itself is small. Well done on that! If it weren't for the DoF, I'm pretty sure it would look far larger.
wow... wasnt expecting so many replies overnight... thanks
...yeh... the dof really makes it look smaller...i was rendering it without it at first and it does look bigger, heavier and more realistic but i turned it on and kinda got carried away with extreme dof and wide angle lenses :P ...i think the really clear lighting also makes it look smaller... but it took more than 10 seconds to render and i get impatient when it comes to rendering time ...one day i may relight it and do some more renders but for now im going to start something else
This is some sweeet! work dude! Seriously thought it was a miniature when I first opened the thread and the new renders are even cool. Good stuff man
My only critique would be, if you're going to put a background image in there like that, I definitely like how it's blurred out, but you can just see how pixelated it is. If you're going for that realism it takes away from it a little, that's just me nitpicking. The model is awesome though seriously

1. Hmm, textures look a little blurry.
2. Oh wait, never mind, he's painting a miniature.
3. Wait, wtf?
Mind Blown.
Then my mind exploded.
