Auto rescan disks on startup

For some reason everytime I restart one of my hard drives isn't detected and requires me to go to disk management and click 'rescan disks' for it to display/be detected properly. This is a proper ballache is there a way to automate this or create an icon to execute this action quickly? I'm using vista 64bit. Cheers.

Check for a BIOS update for your mobo/computer. Also check for drivers.

Is this HDD on your motherboard? Or a expansion card?

Is the HDD SATA and your other drives IDE? Or vice-versa?

You shouldn't need to automate that activity. Windows should do that automatically. Maybe change the drive letter for it.

If your mobo supports hotswapping, disable it.

If nothing has changed in the software or hardware of your computer and this randomly started happening, use your HDD manufacturer's provided test to ensure that the drive is fully functional.

like notman said, BIOS update, and if you're running RAID or AHCI on your SATA then update those drivers too.

If you cant get rid of the problem, try "hotswap!" , i use it for my external sata drive, scans for hardware changes with 1 click, allows you to hotswap/disconnect usb drives too.
