So I'm using the Mental Ray Archi texture tools within mental ray based of a tutorial I was reading earlier, but have now lost due to a browser crash.
So it looks okay, it's not showing as transparent, even though I set the material to be 100% transparent - not so much of an issue, the cartoony look isn't so bad, and they cast light nicely, however, I threw in a light to show up the lighters a little more, and bugger me, the flames cast shadows?!
I was originally just going to do a falloff map for transparency/self-illumination , then just stick in an omni, but I was hoping mental ray would make it a little more elegant and classy. Anyone done anything similar (jets planes etc? )

Thanks guys , might also render the flames separately and stick together in photoshop afterwards then.
