Yours is turning out pretty good so far. I really like your belts, wrist band, and pauldron. My only real suggestion is the highlight on the nose. I understand you're going for a chiseled look in your paint work, but out of the entire piece, that streak of highlight confuses me to wondering if he's a statue or not.
The chisel look on the rest of him looks great, though
i picked this up again. Had no time to even think about vaguely interesting design elements, so the whole thing is a total cop-out. Hey ho, fun to be painting textures for once, and i might *even finish ... yeah yeah ...
@Haiasi: Thanks man, yeah i totally agree with the highlight thing you are talkin about. I reworked it, just to give him a more soft look, rather then being so busy everywhere. Thanks for the crits, its always good to get a fresh pair of eyes on somthing you stare at for a while .
@danr: I really dig the character so far, although the hands are not reading right to me, Also if you added more detail to the skin. I think it would do wonders for him. Lookin good.
Update:
Softened him down a little, and added pupils. What you guys think?
Was gonna post this days ago but never got around to it.
Painting here at native res of 512x512.
Still very early WIP, was having a spot of trouble painting the tricep area due to the seam cutting right through it, would have been nicer just 1 set of quads further inwards but I'll fix it.
Lovely work guys, maybe we should have more amazing SDK threads like this. Like the good old days.. that I never experienced.. right?
Ah yes! The good ol' days. That I also never experienced
This comment made me lol pretty hard for some reason, and I guess as long as I am replying to something I may as well thank you all for such a thread. It is very helpful If my gob gob guy turns out I will post.
I've never done any digital painting before but I really want to try but for some reason when every I do it always comes out looking really muddy looking and not crisp like everyone's goblins in here. I've looked at tutorials before but I've never found one that explained it clearly. They all go into color theory and stuff like that and don't cover what your photoshop brush should be set to.
Phew. After maybe 1 to 2 hours, I have completed this much so far. Its actually my first time trying to texture a current-gen character. Used some hand paint and two image overlays. Still WIP of course
Played with it a lot today, been a while. Going for a braveheart/viking feel, as well as a blacksmith forced into battle. He needs a lot more work, but it has been so much fun to play with this model, thanks again Mop.
Dur: Great stuff, I really dig the patters on his face/head.
I checked out your site and saw you have some fight scenes animated. I would love to see two of these guys fighting each other, sporting different textures of course.
Amazing looking through this thread. Im in need of some help, i dont really understand how to get a wrinkly skin look, or skin creases. Could someone please explain\stepbystep\video it?
Ive been wanting to Paint this guy for a long time! Tully and First Keeper whew! My mind is blown still.. I think I've been looking at Tully's for far too long..
