There are some amazing shots in there (I don't have speakers on this pc at work so don't know about the music ha). I love the shots with the fog...
Anyway, I'd love to get up to B.C. just to fish :P I used to visit Canada quite a bit (only a 5 hour drive from Central PA) but I don't have a passport so I haven't been up in awhile. I just love the entire country haha.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the atmosphere in the city is like, and may watch a couple of things but am not super interested...
... But I have a feeling it's going to be a fucking pain in the ass for me. I work right in front of Olympic Village... getting to work is going to be terrible. :P
I'm all over the snowboarding, though I hear the venue's been having some weather trouble this winter. Not enough snow, so they're putting down straw as a base. Let's hope it works.
Vancouver is pretty sweet, I've only been there once, but it was pretty awesome. I took a hike through Stanley Park and then trekked across the Lions Gate bridge.
The Olympics should be pretty sweet. I enjoy watching anything really, what ever is on the tv at the time is fine with me.
really not looking forawrd to them, the city is going to be a cluster fuck. Im not big into sports so i really couldnt be bothered watching them.
itll be an interesting experience having such a huge event in our city but I think the inconvenience will outweigh that for me. I have heard rumor of around an hr wait to get through security for some skytrains. although I also heard rumor of a free beer garden being set up somewhere so maybe it wont be a complete loss
Vancouver's over rated, I miss the East...personally.
Much like my good friend, Pixel Masher, I'm also not too keen on these Olympic Games...None of the sports I like are in the Olympics and it's totally butt fucking my commute to work. The city can barely function on a regular day, adding this into the mix is going to make it a complete gong show. Though, I may change my tune if this beer garden thing is true.
I might watch some of the events on tv, I dunno. I'm not terribly interested in the Olympic sports besides Hockey. Though the skiing and luge ones are always fun to watch.
I will probably end up just going downtown for whatever reason and being caught up in whatever kind of a zoo it is (especially if there is a free beer garden).:)
I know I'm probably going to be watching nordic skiing. I actually race and have met a couple the guys on the US team. Although the US team sucks... but still. Yay norway?
I realized something today, because I missed the torch going nearby my house. The fact that they Olympics are a once in a lifetime thing (in your home city) it automatically makes them have more value they might have otherwise. I missed the torch and am in a way more disappointed than I probably would be otherwise. I know I can't say I have cared a lot for the Olympics before now, but I feel like now maybe I should care more.
Friends and I are probably just going to check out a lot of the interesting events and stuff going on around the city. They are all off from school for two weeks. Also I have heard from multiple people now that the free beer gardens do in fact exist, so we're going to get our provincial taxes worth.
Google came up with these two (there are probably more) and some of the wording they use on their site leads me to believe that admission will be free but everything else cost money. Guess we'll see!
I hear the Irish tent is set up literally right next to the penthouse strip club and is extremely rowdy already till like 5 in the morning most nights. should be interesting when the Olympics actually start haha. might have to investigate these rumors.
I'm really not into them to be honest. I'll probably catch a few things, but mostly because there won't be shit else to watch. For some reason, all the other networks fold and don't attempt to compete with the Olympics coverage, so it's rerun city.

why don't the have those poles covered up by part of the track on the side if stuff like that can happen. 2 more feet on the sides and he wouldn't have gone off the track.
If u are in vancouver go and experience that shit, I'd kill to be there right now, T_T well atleast I'm jobless so i can stay up and watch everything on the tv:P
At work today they had the torch running crap on a billion monitors throughout the building. Also tons of decorations and stuff. All of the ads on transit, all of the people wearing Olympic clothes... Kind of difficult not to get caught up in it. It's being made a much bigger deal of than I had expected.
I have the Opening Ceremonies streaming right now on my other monitor. Tuning it out mostly, but it's nice to have on.
Edit: Wow, again with all of the Native stuff. The announcer has said a dozen times now how multi-cultural we are here in Vancouver, but all that's being represented is our native populations. It's crazy how much emphasis they are putting on this.
but I watched the opening ceremonies tonight and it gave me a new empty feeling.... does anyone else see that whenever Canada wants to present how full of culture we are its always asking Native Canadians to show up and prove we are culturally strong.... But ANY other time in regular day to day life nobody gives a fuck that they are totally hurting?
I think this whole Canada is Native rich stuff is a total farce! Not because Native Canadians arnt culturally rich, but if I was Native I'd tell Canada to eat a bag of balls the next time they asked me to dance on TV - because as soon as the red light is off, Canada forgets completely about them. I dont hear a single thing about Native canada unless Canada is beaking off to the rest of the world about how strong our cultural society is.
Maybe im just not listening? Tell me im crazy so I dont have to hate hate hate.
The guy with feather face sitting in the crowd of dignitaries was wikked!
Not absolutely true. I know treaty Indians get tax free something like $100K lump sum from the federal gov't when they turn eighteen (from treaties made ages ago). Some burn through that cash pretty fast with trucks and what not, but still...I won't classifiy them as persecuted or barred from succeeding in society just like non-aboriginals. They don't have to remain living in their res if they don't want to. Alcoholism is obviously a problem in their community, but...it's an individual's choice right?
Man, that's such a touchy subject - haha. I actually found it kind of insulting, as a person with native blood, it's kind of a joke. I basically share the same thoughts as Microneezia, but more specifically I think that mentality is present in BC more than the rest of the country. At least back east (Maritime provinces) things aren't like that. You notice though, that as soon as any amount of tourists are coming to the city, we all of a sudden have native art and culture - kinda bs.
I could go on forever about this, but it's not really the place - hah.
I watched the opening ceremonies, unintentionally, at a pub. There were some pretty lights and shit, but I think the message being sent was ridiculous.
I might watch some of the events if I'm not busy ice fishing with my old friend Nantuk.
Edit> Anyone else think KD Lang looks like Wayne Newton?
there's native stuff all of the place guys... maybe you just arent looking? and this was more about the roots of our country. we are culturally strong. just because we dont see native canadian stuff everywhere you go doesnt make that not true. This was about the roots. where we came from. if you wanted to see it, you could. there are performances all over the place. reserves all over the place. sight seeing locations... all over the place. Those are our roots. they were showing culture, and if you look around this country, you`ll see that its more true today that we are culturally strong. not just natives, but cultures from all over the world. and if you wanna say oh, its only when tons of tourists come to the city is when the art comes out. well, for the olympics specifically, its the THEME they chose. doesnt mean they are trying to make it seem like every place in canada is like that. though, im sure tons of people might take it that way. but hey, they already thing we live in igloos, so whatever.

Cool video though

I mostly feel like my city is being pillaged. We'll be paying for this for a long time. But they're growing on me a little bit.
