Try to find a monitor that uses an IPS panel or a PVA/MVA panel. IPS is ideal but PVA or MVA panels will work great too. Avoid TN panels found in most cheap/gaming monitors. The other major concern would be monitor gamut. I would say it is best not to have a wide gamut monitor as sRGB space is what you should be targeting and having all that extra gamut makes color management more of a hassle. Wide gamut monitors are often listed as have a large coverage of NTSC space or as adobe RGB monitors. A standard gamut monitor should have close to 72% NTSC coverage.
